Makahiki Ea: Cultural Practices restoring Sovereignty

Join us for an evening of 'ike and conversation as we explore Makahiki and its significance in restoring the Ea of Kahoʻolawe, and the impact of Kahoʻolawe Makahiki ceremonies on cultural practices in our communities today. To open the evening there will  be a special tribute recognizing the contributions of the Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana for the 50 Years of Aloha ʻĀina Leadership. 

We are excited to be hosting three amazing Kanaka guest speakers from our Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana -
​Kaliko Baker, Michael Nāhoʻopiʻi, and Aunty Davi Pōmaikaʻi McGregor.

A discussion of the progression of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi both on Kahoʻolawe and at the universities of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and Hilo. As Kanaloa is established in HRS 6K as the first sovereign lands of a recognized Kānaka ʻŌiwi governing entity, it is the natural place to invigorate the ea of kānaka that is ʻōlelo.
